After a few decades in the workforce, spotting a phony employer is easy. Boasting their 'unlimited' PTO, yet making it impossible to use, fake-nice bosses get away with a lot of tomfoolery in the workplace. Tricking their employee into submission and lulling them into working overtime hours just because there are company-provided snacks in the break room, these types of bosses pretend to offer perks to their workforce in an attempt to scrimp. 

However, there are a few employers out there who genuinely care about their workforce—and it's become much clearer who those good bosses are…

  • For me, a big red flag in a workplace is having a table-game set up in the conference room like ping pong or billiards. To me, if a company has something like this set up in their break room, it's just for shock value for new hires and prospective clients. Your boss is trying to scream, ‘We have fun in the office!’ just before cracking the whip on his jack-of-all-trades all-star employee making barely more than minimum wage and working 60-hour weeks on a salary. 

    The only way to know if an employer actually cares about you is if they offer helpful, company-funded perks such as PTO, healthcare, or other healthy lifestyle bonuses that benefit the employees without some ulterior motive to make the company look good on paper.     the company, no manager calling me to tell me to make up the time, they just let me go. Without that cooperation and arrangement, I would not have been able to see my dad in his last few days here and I am forever thankful to my company for doing that.
